Excellent post. I have been out of the US for 10 years. Agree completely with what you say about most expats living in their gated communities.Certainly true here. Around where I am, I ride a mountain bike (in the mountains) or walk to get around. Most of the expats ride electric scooters and can barely walk when off of them. They dont speak the language or know the customs and live in their own little expat bubble and squabble like 14 year olds on a playground. Good luck to em with whats coming. None for me thanks. The natives here are decent people outside of the cities but inside they see expats as a walking bank. Speak the language, know and respect the customs and that mostly goes away. Outside of the cities.....Its possible to find community in a place like this...outside of the cities. Better off there anyway, raise your own food, fresh water and air....

Again thanks for laying this out the way it needs to be. Most people cant or wont change to be ready for where we are headed. Gods Blessings on them they are going to need it.

Regards.

I thought about...and still think about the Philippines. I lived in Mexico for 10 years, left there in 2009 because of the increasing cartel violence in my community, then back out again in 2012 for South America. In Mexico I surfed and dived, 2 things missing in the mountains. One thing nice here FWIW is to have the entire Amazon Basin at my back, possibly (but hopefully not) useful the way the world is. I have sailed a little in the Pacific but never been where you are. If I left South America I think it would be one of my choices.....
